Adobe confirms AIR joining Flash on Galaxy Nexus next month

updated 06:55 pm EST, Tue November 29, 2011

Unclear if will be in first US shipments

When the Samsung Galaxy Nexus began shipping earlier this month, it did so without either Adobe AIR or Adobe Flash Player. Adobe now has confirmed that it will be supporting both those apps, not just Flash, on the Android 4.0-based smartphone some time in December. The company will be offering the functionality through a "minor update to the runtimes."

The Nexus is the first smartphone to run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Samsung began shipping the Nexus to the UK on November 17. It's expected to reach both Canada and the US on December 8 on that date or later, although a limited number of phones have made it into North America through imports from stores like Expansys.

Partially responsible for the lag in hitting American shores could be attributed to a volume bug which Samsung is in the process of fixing, although that only truly affects the GSM version.

It's uncertain if the first units shipped in the US and Canada will support Adobe AIR or Flash Player by the time they arrive. They may be the last to get a version designed with their compatibility in mind, as Adobe is dropping mobile Flash after 11.1.
