Google, Samsung rolling Galaxy Nexus volume fix now

updated 12:00 pm EST, Wed November 30, 2011

Galaxy Nexus volume fix goes over the air

The previously leaked volume fix for the Galaxy Nexus is pushing out now, Google confirmed in a statement. Owners of the HSPA+ version, mostly in Europe, should be getting an over-the-air update starting now and should finish within a week. The CDMA version won't need the fix.

The flaw sees the volume change significantly and in some cases lock afterwards, forcing some users to reboot to get back to normal volume. Investigations have narrowed it down to an issue with interference with 900MHz GSM voice, including not just on the phone itself but from other phones nearby. Americans and Canadians with the HSPA+ model won't notice the issue while in North America, since carriers in the country normally turn to 850MHz or 1,900MHz for GSM calls.

Canada should get the Galaxy Nexus on December 8 and will likely be joined by the US with a Verizon launch the same day.
