Sony takes PS3 to v.4.00, paves way for PS Vita

Sony has released a new PS3 System Software Update taking the device to version 4.00. The release introduces new functionality for the impending release of the PS Vita handheld console in the Japanese market, in the first instance. Another tweak is a new tab that highlights the PlayStation Plus service and offers users a direct portal to PlayStation Plus content.

In terms of the PS Vita, the latest PS3 update paves the way for the handheld console to be able to copy their digital content such as games, music, photos, and videos between PS Vita and PS3. It will also allow users to back up PS Vita game games including save data to the PS3 hard drive, and update the system software for the PS Vita system using the network features of the PS3.

The update also allows PlayStation Plus members to choose to enable or disable each automatic update feature including game patches, system software updates, recommended games and videos as well as sync trophy information.

All users can now also adjust PlayStation Network settings for filtering friend requests and messages.
