LG unveils DX2500 displays with head-tracking 3D

LG picked Thursday to update its glasses-free 3D computer LCDs. The DX2500 builds on the earlier D2000 now has output cerified by Europe's standards body TUV Rheinland. The 20- and 25-inch screens are billed as having good color reproduction and contrast even with 3D, dodging the washed-out look of some 3D formats.

As before, the 3D technique uses a parallax barrier in tandem with the display's webcam to tell where the user is sitting. The result only works ideally with one viewer but, apart from eliminating the need for glasses, also scraps the need to sit in an ideal position for the full effect.

Most of the pure technical details aren't available, but both are height-adjustable. Koreans can get the displays now starting from the equivalent of $1,137. It's not known when the DX2500 series will reach the US.
