TJ Maxx repeats history with iPad 2 discount

TJ Maxx on Saturday acted on its recently rumored $399 iPad 2 promo. The 16GB Wi-Fi tablet costs $399, a full $100 less than it does officially, while supplies last. Stock is known to be low to start, if not already exhausted, and won't include every store.

The budget retailer used a similar strategy last year, when the late Steve Jobs confirmed it wasn't an official outlet for the Apple hardware. TJ Maxx is believed to simply be buying devices at retail value and selling them for a loss to get customers into stores.

Apple normally has tight control of minimum costs for retailers and itself doesn't relax pricing. It usually makes an exception on the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and this year saw both itself and at least Best Buy drop prices substantially, albeit still higher than what TJ Maxx is offering. Only for sale in areas not near an Apple store

TJ Maxx in Ramsey NJ said stores near Apple stores won't get the iPads. There are 4 Apple stores within 30 mins of me so no luck for me.
