System streams DVD content over Wi-Fi
Samsung has finally demonstrated its SE-208BW Smart Media Hub, which was originally announced in September. The device offers the same basic functionality as many other media hubs, however it adds a CD/DVD burner. Users can stream audio CDs or DVD content over Wi-Fi networks to play on smartphones, tablets or PCs.
The optical drive can also be used as a backup device for burning content, such as photos or videos stored on smartphones. The device manages its own FTP server with Dynamic DNS to provide remote access capabilities.
Users with DLNA televisions can use the company's AllShare utility to access content on a connected hard drive, while the Wi-Fi features include a repeater function to help extend the range of home networks.
Although the company is already showing off the Smart Media Hub, it is not expected to be available until early 2012. The necessary Android app for Wi-Fi streaming is already available, while the iOS variant is promised to launch around the same time as the device. [via Engadget]
