RIM renames BBX to BlackBerry 10 in Apple-style cue

BBX rechristened BlackBerry 10 at DevCon

RIM quickly got around a ban on mentioning BBX during BlackBerry DevCon Asia by renaming its platform. The new smartphone and tablet platform will just be called BlackBerry 10. Its technique copies the one used by Apple for jumping multiple version numbers with QuickTime and Final Cut Pro.

Unlike Apple, however, RIM's hand was forced by an upcoming lawsuit that would have forced it to either settle or change its name regardless.

BlackBerry 10 has the same roots and will be RIM's first to merge its smartphone and tablet platforms in one. Making the switch gives its smartphones much more advanced multitasking and media support. The first devices using BB10 could arrive in March.

    Bad comparison

Apple comparison was not necessary and wrong... There is no "Apple-Style" cue, Final Cut has a version 9 and Quicktime X was named after Mac OS X.

    The other problem

Is most people have no clue whether the X in Final Cut X or Quicktime X means "X" or "Ten". Most people assume OS X means OS "X", because apple calls it OS X version 10.6.

Oh, and they're calling it 10, not 'x', so how is it even close to being compared?
