Facebook for Android updated

Facebook picked Wednesday to unveil a complete remake of its Android app (Market, live soon). Its interface takes cues from the gesture-driven iPad and iPhone versions with the typical Facebook menu hidden under the main feed and the notices in an always-available section up top. The UI has also been tuned for Android 4.0 users, with the familiar upper-right drop-down instead of resorting to a hidden menu.

The Android version catches up on a broader level in performance. Photo and album navigation should be about twice as fast. The interface itself should simplify sharing photos, editing captions, and checking comments.

Users aren't yet seeing the Facebook app update in the store, but it's expected to go live soon.
