Nokia Lumia 710 may get US debut

Nokia and T-Mobile together sent out invitations for an event on December 14 that may well confirm plans for a Lumia 710 in the US. The invite for the New York City gathering only mentions "something exciting in the works" but uses graphics that are clearly a reference to Windows Phone's tile interface. Official details will only come from the New York City gathering, which takes place that day at 7PM.

The Lumia 710 is the only real candidate for Nokia given its appearance at the FCC with T-Mobile's needed 3G bands. It carries the 1.4GHz Snapdragon and 3.7-inch display size of the Lumia 800, but it uses an LCD instead of an AMOLED screen and has a five-megapixel camera and 8GB of storage instead of the eight-megapixel camera and 16GB of its more advanced sibling. While not given as much a premium design, it comes in five different colors that match up with the options available in Windows Phone 7.5's own interface.

The hardware should be the second Windows Phone 7.5 device on T-Mobile and the first non-Symbian phone from Nokia to reach the US. Rumors have either a Lumia 800 with LTE or a future Lumia model showing on AT&T early next year. A T-Mobile event in December would help avoid being overshadowed by the higher-profile release.
