Nook Color update goes live

Barnes & Noble as promised has rolled out the 1.4 update to the Nook Color. The upgrade is key to switching on content made available first on the Nook Tablet and lets users get the Netflix video app as well as watch UltraViolet-linked movies through the Flixster app. Readers can also browse Nook Comics from Marvel, IDW, Dynamite, and others.

No matter the title, the original Barnes & Noble tablet now supports a long hoped for landscape reading mode as well as more customization. PDFs get much more support with multi-touch zooming and scrolling through images as well as thumbnail views of pages. Off of the device, it's now possible to gift an app or a book through the web.

The update is available first for those who check and download it manually, but it will roll out automatically for everyone in the next week.
