Pogoplug Series 4 updates DIY NAS for self-storage

Pogoplug on Wednesday rolled out the Pogoplug Series 4 as the latest incarnation of its do-it-yourself cloud storage. The new version adds a pair of USB 3.0 ports on top of USB 2.0 to provide much more always-on external storage. They can also take SATA drives through the USM format, the same that Seagate uses in its GoFlex models.

Other than a streamlined design, it has all the features of recent but earlier Pogoplugs, such as the SD card slot and gigabit Ethernet.

The device remains accessible either through the Mac or Windows on the desktop as well as through Android and iOS apps. Users can host "infinite" cloud storage through content on their home networks.

Picking the Series 4 over the Mobile raises the price to $100. Americans can buy it now, with Europe coming sometime in the near future.
