Sony backtracks on original statement

Sony has backtracked on recent comments surrounding multiple user accounts on the company's PlayStation Vita handheld. An official statement recently suggested each device would be able to run multiple accounts if each separate account used its own memory card, however the company now claims each device will be limited to one account regardless of storage.

"[The] PSN account is tied to the hardware and the memory card, not just the card," a representative told Wired. "If a second person is using your Vita, it's not just a case of switching out memory cards, it's clearing out all of your saved data on the Vita itself when you do the factory reset."

Other platform limitations include the sync software, which is required to transfer multimedia files but will only be available for Windows machines at launch. The handhelds will also restrict multitasking functionality while games are in progress, though users will have limited access to social networking features and music playback.

The Vita is scheduled to arrive this weekend in Japan, while a North American launch is slated for February 22. Prices are set at $250 for the Wi-Fi variant or $300 for the 3G model.
