Cricket dips into tablets with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Wi-Fi model needs separate modem to access network
Prepaid carrier Cricket has entered tablets for the first time by offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to its wireless subscribers. The company is reselling the Wi-Fi model, but not the 3G version. This means that Cricket's users cannot directly connect the tablet to the company's 3G network, but must use a hotspot or a smartphone instead.
To officially connect to the Cricket network, subscribers must also buy the company's Crosswave 3G modem device. This is Cricket's mobile hotspot for tethering up to three Wi-Fi enabled devices to Cricket's 3G network.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 on offer runs Android 3.1 and is otherwise identical to those elsewhere, including the Tegra 2 processor, 1280x800 display, and both three-megapixel back as well as two-megapixel front cameras.
Cricket is selling the Samsung Galaxy Tab as a stand-alone for $500, or $595 packaged with the Crossover.
