Owners even get $10 bonus from Google for using it
Although Verizon only released the much anticipated
Samsung Galaxy Nexus earlier this week, enthusiasts already have posted hacks to expand the Android 4.0 smartphone's functionality. One such effort has leveraged the phone's inbuilt NFC capabilities and created a ROM which supports Verizon itself did not support the app when the Galaxy Nexus launched, and has not provided any time frame when it will officially offer the app, saying only it is in "discussions with Google on this issue."
Verizon spokesman Jeffrey Nelson has claimed that the carrier initially
was not supporting the app because, to work properly, it had to be interoperable with the phone's "new, secure and proprietary hardware element". Some concerns have been expressed that Verizon's real motivation for not supporting Google Wallet was the provider's involvement with the competing NFC-based payment system Isis, which is expected to roll out sometime in early 2012.
