Motorola has released a software update for its MOTOACTV exercise tracker that it launched in October. the update includes improved battery life for up to eight hours of uninterrupted workout time. Motorola has also added a stopwatch and a countdown timer.

To improve battery life, the new software now offers three battery modes: normal, extended, and marathon. These represent refresh rates of one, two and three seconds. The MOTOACTIV now also sports a heart-rate tracking function, as well as several new clock-face skins for personalization.

The update for the 8GB version of the MOTOACTIV is available now. For unknown reasons, the 16GB model's update will be available next week.
