Devs make custom ROM with Android 4, HTC Sense
XDA Developer forum member Robocik has successfully ported a custom ROM onto the HTC Sensation XE that combines Android 4.0 and HTC's Sense 3.5. He shared his work on the forum and thanked Capychimp for help. The build starts from Android 4.0.1 brings with it all the unique features, such as Face Unlock and Movie Studio.
It is an early, test build, however, and its makers aren't even sure of all the bugs yet. One of them includes not being able to set the wallpaper from gallery images. The standard EVO Latin IME Android keyboard comes with the install, along with a custom pop-up animation. A revised dock on the home screen is visible from the photos below, along with support for going into an app folder straight from lock screen.
Those who preload the firmware with a custom recovery tool are urged to make some changes in order to save battery life, such as changing Wi-Fi power settings and turning off pocket mode. The first boot is also said to take a long time.
When HTC updates its own Sense skin to reflect Android 4.0 remains to be seen, but is most likely due for Mobile World Congress in late February.
