Second US cartrier to offer Huawei smartphone

US Cellular will soon be running a new budget Android phone, the Huawei Ascend II. The hardware centers on a 3.5-inch, 480x240 touchscreen and runs Android 2.3. The carrier is the second US-based carrier to carry the phone, following Cricket, which launched it in July.

In addition to the display, the 3G Ascend II sports a 600MHz processor, a five-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, and stereo-capable Bluetooth. Talk time is up to five hours, and stand-by time is up to 12.5 days. Preloaded apps will include Amazon Shopping, FM Radio, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, and several games, including Uno.

The Ascend II will be available on the US Cellular website next week, and in stores in early January. The phone will be free on a standard plan after a $100 rebate and $100 for prepaid subscribers.
