Option gets into hotspots with XYfi leak

Better known for its 3G modems, Option is jumping into hotspots after an FCC listing gave away its plans. Nicknamed the XYfi, it would share three bands of HSPA 3G over 802.11n Wi-Fi. Not much else is known besides its having a quad-band EDGE 2G fallback and a very small profile.

Option had put in its confidentiality request in July with a 90-day expiration date, making it possible for any US carrier to start using it immediately. No guarantees exist that it will find a home in the US, and it may end up being a Canadian or European version of the XYfi just cleared for use. [via Engadget]
