Holiday 2011 gift thread

Technology is increasingly the gift of choice, and we'd like to know what readers got (or are giving) this year for Christmas, Hanukkah, another holiday, or just out of kindness. Did you get an iPad, a Kindle Fire, or a Galaxy Nexus? Share what you've seen in the comments below, and please be kind in the spirit of the season!

    None of the above

Maybe we're contrarians, but no one in my extended family got any technology presents this x-mas. Not that we don't have our share of kindles, nooks, iphones, ipads, macbooks, androids, PS systems and so on - but I guess we get them when we want/need them. Or maybe it's a more personal decision so we get them for ourselves.

This X-mas was more like odds and ends such as Muay Thai Pads, all kinds of board games, subscriptions to Quarterly Inc., various DVDs or products from artists through Kickstarter, gift cards, etc. And of course... tons of clothes. :)

    Tide clocks are great!

I received a Tide Clock which is synced with the moon, not the sun and gives a day 24 hours and 50 minutes, and a twice daily cycle of High and Low Tide. One revolution takes 12 hours 25mins and High Tide is in the 12 o'clock position, Low Tide in the 6 o'clock position. THe numbers around the sides tell you how long to the next turn of the next turn of the tide, eg 5 hours to go, 4 hrs etc. Brilliant bit of kit!

I gave a Kindle. We've both already got iPads.

    Apple gave me something nice

As a reward for keeping an old iPod Nano 1 on my Shelf Of Old Technologies, long after it had stopped working, Apple sent me a brand new, cute little iPod 6. Of course, I had to give them my old, useless thingie, and I no longer have it to remind me of days of yore when life was simple, but it was a nice gesture, nonetheless. Arrived two days before the big X. Woo hoo!

    Xbox 360 Kinect bundle...

for the kids. I have to say, I am really impressed by the Kinect. I already have a 360, but was not really sold on the the Kinect - until the whole family got hooked by it on Christmas day. I have an 8 year old and a 6 year old and they both love it - my wife loves it too. Great fun for the family.
