Amazon UK mirrors Apple with 12 Days of Kindle sale

Amazon gives discounted books
Amazon UK took a page from Apple's 12 Days giveaway with a sale, not giveaway, of its own. The deal cuts back a number of books by several times their asking prices, often putting them under £3. Its deal starts off with a focus on award-winning novels first.
Like Apple, Amazon's offer lasts until January 6. No equivalent exists to the bargains in Canada or the US.
The discounting follows Amazon notching one million Kindles a week and may be considered vital to keeping readers. Amazon is still believed well ahead of Apple and other bookstore competitors in the UK, but the iBookstore has now grown to over 180 million downloads and is coming just as Apple is poised to set a record for iPad shipments that could cut into Kindle sales.
