LG starts Android 4 updates in spring, summer

LG in an update gave a long timetable for its Android 4.0 upgrades. The first releases will only start in the spring, or no sooner than April, with the Optimus LTE, Prada Phone by LG 3.0, Optimus 2X, Optimus Sol, myTouch Q, and Eclipse getting updates that season. Some phones won't get their updates until the summer, including the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus Big, Optimus Q2, and Optimus EX.

The firm wouldn't narrow down exact timings at this stage. Timing depended on the carrier and the country, LG said.

While the upgrades will cover most of LG's smartphones, the timing leaves roughly half a year to the first upgrades. The timing underscores the splintering caused by custom interfaces, as the Galaxy Nexus has already been on the market since November with Google's new OS. HTC, Samsung, and others have all promised either winter or spring for their own first upgrades.
