Company claims to have found root cause

Microsoft is reportedly testing a bug fix that aims to resolve a security vulnerability affecting Windows Phone devices. The individual who discovered the bug, Khaled Salameh, suggests Microsoft's security team has confirmed the exploit and determined the root cause, according to a Twitter post.

The bug is said to allow an attacker to remotely shut down a Windows Phone handset by sending the device a particular message via SMS, Facebook or Windows Live. The flaw is said to leave the messaging utility disabled when the phone is restarted, forcing users to wipe the device.

Microsoft has yet to announce a time-frame for releasing a patch, however Salameh has yet to publicly disclose exact details of the exploit.
