Facebook Messenger Windows 7 app shows early

updated 03:10 pm EST, Thu December 29, 2011

Facebook Messenger for Windows 7 up for download

The Facebook Messenger app for Windows 7 PCs that's been in testing since November is now available unofficially from a third party, TechIT found (direct download). Included in the app is the chat function, the ticker feed of friends' activity, and Facebook notifications. The app can snap to the side of the screen thanks to its dock feature.

Facebook has previously released dedicated apps for iOS devices, with the iPad getting it the latest, as well as Android and BlackBerry devices. Messenger has usually only shown on smartphone-sized devices and never on the desktop.

When Facebook itself releases the app isn't known, but it should be relatively soon. [via The Verge]

    What's the deal with...

...All new apps for windows being multi-window mess?
Just like on all Skype versions after 3.8, to make a phone call you waste 80% of your screen real estate.

Is M$ surreptitiously selling large format LCDs?

Not just the ridiculously thick and distracting window decorations, now everything in M$ Windows is full of hypertext that you have to read. And some of the text is blue and looks like hypertext but it's not. Is this going forward with ease of use?

It used to be that less was more and Icons would save you from reading a line of text. The new Control Panel in W7 looks like a very badly designed web interface.

Take the Task Manager, to call it up you would just right click on the task bar and pick "Task Manager"; now on the pop-up menu you get "Start Task Manager"; in XP "Power Off" became "Turn OFF computer ".

Is this not OVIOUS? I do not want to turn the router off. or the wall clock...

Imagine if everything in your home had labels just as long: the living room lights - turn LIVING ROOM lights OFF"", The WC - "Rotate lever clockwise to FLUSH excrements", Microwave - "Push to automatically COOCK corn kernels into POPCORN" ...

H3LL, When Stanley Kubric posted the instructions on the Zero G toilet all over it was meant as a JOKE.

On Lion it's a lot better; icons save you reading, but there thick decorations there make sense as Apple wants OS X to become iOS, and cater to general consumers not professionals.

Unless Linux grows some pro applications, (only MAYA is available for CGI pros), and Apple retiring the Mac Pros, the future looks bleak for pro content creators...
