Handheld outfitted with snakeskin

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has teased a special edition Nintendo 3DS featuring a snakeskin-texture housing. The customized gaming handheld is said to be borne of direct collaboration with Nintendo and created to celebrate the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D for the platform.

Aside from the special edition, Nintendo's standard 3DS has experienced a resurgence in sales for the holidays. Distribution is said to have surpassed 4 million units in Japan, with over 500,000 sales during the week that ended on Christmas day.

Kojima suggests full details, including pricing and launch information, will be announced on January 20. The game is not expected to arrive until March.
