RUSNANO, Thunder Sky team on huge battery plant

Russian tech company RUSNANO and Chinese holding company Thunder Sky have joined forces on the world's largest high-capacity lithium-ion battery factory. Called Liotech, it is situated near Novosibirsk in Russia and represents an investment of more than $420 million. The factory covers about 430,000 square feet and was built in just nine months. It will employ nearly 500 workers.

Batteries of 200Ah, 300Ah and 700Ah capacities will be built at the plant, which has the capacity to build about one million batteries per year, or enough to power half a million electric buses. The batteries are said to be environmentally-safe and have a service life of between ten and 15 years even after they are done their seven to eight years of service in electric buses.

The company had contacts for the products of the factory, including a $93 million contract from MOBEL.

The batteries made at the plant have no memory effect after many charge-discharge cycles, can be recharged to 70 percent of capacity in just 20 minutes using high-amperage chargers and provide a range of up to 186 miles in buses. [via EVWorld]

    Great iniciative but...

With the past track record of both Russian and Chinese companies lean towards corruption, safety compromising, second hand engineering, and just bad management…

Will sure wait for a couple years,
and then buy someone else’s LiPo cells .
