Verizon quietly solves hours-long LTE, 3G outage

Verizon stated early Thursday that its third LTE outage of December had been quietly fixed in the night. As before, it insisted that 3G data had stayed up and that only its newer 4G network was affected. Numerous reports from across the US pointed to 3G being down for at least some users as well.

The company has yet to provide a root cause for the repeated issues, which didn't affect voice or text messaging but left many without any Internet access beyond Wi-Fi. A third outage implies a systemic problem rather than exceptional incidents.

For Verizon, such incidents have been rare until the past several weeks. They nonetheless could hurt the company, as the foundation of its marketing is based on the reliability of its network.
