FCC to investigate Verizon $2 bill payment fee

FCC may object to Verizon bill fee
The FCC on Friday said it would investigate Verizon's $2 convenience fee for one-time bill payments. Agency officials were "concerned about Verizon's actions," the regulator said. It was too soon to gauge whether this would include policy changes.
Verizon's charge drew criticism as it would apply to most subscribers trying to make a single bill payment either over the phone or on the web. Physical mail, e-checks and a handful of other special exemptions exist, but the only way to escape the fee for most customers is to set up auto-payment. The auto-pay exemption is likely Verizon's real goal as it guarantees fewer missed bills and may catch those who want to cancel service but don't before a new billing cycle.
The carrier hasn't reacted to the FCC look, although it doesn't implement the fee until January 15.

yes....
It's a "convenience fee". As in, it's convenient for us to charge you a fee.
And to think I was thinking one should get a convience rebate for doing something like setting up auto-pay or something.
