iPad 3 screen possibly sighted for first time

Apple's rumored 2048x1536 display for the iPad 3 may have been leaked out for the first time in a forum posting on Korea's Naver. The panel is the same physical size as the existing iPad 2 display but has a third data connector, presumably to feed the four times higher resolution. A Korean appearance points to it likely coming from an LG Display or Samsung Mobile Display factory.

Not much else is known about the display as shown, where it wasn't powered up. Apple is rumored to be using Sharp-made IGZO technology that would allow the higher resolution display while minimizing the effects on brightness and battery life that could force a thicker design.

While unconfirmed, the appearance of the display would make sense following repeated talk of production having started in November. Apple is thought both to be ramping up production early as well as concerned that it might have low yields of the first-of-its-kind screen. Most anticipate Apple launching the iPad 3 in or near March. [via MacRumors]
