NetUP integrates Android IP set-tops into TVs
Russia's NetUP, which makes IPTV hardware, has now introduced a series of IPTV sets that have an Android-based set-top box integrated. This not only allows users to launch Android apps, browse the web or watch YouTube videos. Each of the four sets uses a 1GHz and likely single-core Samsung processor, 512MB of RAM, and 1GB of storage space.
Android 2.2 is preloaded, and the sets are fast enough to play 1080p videos. An HDMI input, an Ethernet connection, a card reader, two USB ports and support for a USB Wi-Fi adapter are present.
The sets are now available for pre-order, with a 32-inch model priced at $565, the 40-inch at $725, the 46-inch at $845, and the 55-inch at $1,150. NetUP is pushing the sets to hotels, which can set up video-on-demand services, gaming, web browsing and more for the customers in a seamless-looking package.
