Skype gives New York City free Wi-Fi for New Year's Eve

Offers free Wi-Fi services for 24 hours


Following on its recent promotion to air travelers for free Wi-Fi during the past holiday week, Skype will be offering free Skype Wi-Fi for New Year's Eve and Day in New York City. For 24 hours, the VoIP provider will be letting revelers have general Internet access. The promotion runs from noon Saturday until noon on Sunday.

Skype is partnering with Towerstream to make the promotional service available. The offering is limited to the Wi-Fi provider's coverage area which includes Times Square, West Village, East Village, South Village, Greenwich Village, NoHo, SoHo, the Lower East Side, Clinton, Chelsea, Union Square, Midtown, Midtown South, Murray Hill, Stuyvesant Park, and Turtle Bay.

Users have to load the latest version of Skype Wi-Fi, which so far focuses on iOS devices, Macs, and Windows PCs.
