Toshiba 6th gen tablet with quad Tegra 3 appears

Old benchmarks just discovered this weekend hint that Toshiba might already have a replacement for the Excite tablet in development. Although only labeled as the "Tostab06," a generation ahead of the Excite, the Android device originally marked at Anshouji in October has the same 1.4GHz clock speed as a quad-core Tegra 3. Its benchmarks are also fast enough to match up with those of the Tegra 3-equipped ASUS Transformer Prime and are much faster than any other tablet.

Little else is public other than that it appears to have an SD card slot. Toshiba has so far given the Excite 16GB of built-in space, a five-megapixel back camera, and a two-megapixel front camera, making those the baselines for any new hardware.

Toshiba will have a significant presence at CES next week, and it may choose to unveil the new tablet there. Some doubt exists given that the Excite hasn't even reached North America and that Toshiba would have to either scrap its Excite plans in the area or risk an Osborne Effect where customers wait for the new version.
