14-inch Ultrabook fetches $949

Samsung appears to be taking pre-orders for its Series 5 Ultra notebooks in the US market, following several weeks of availability in the company's home country. Configurations posted by electronics retailer J&R suggest the US pricing falls slightly below the equivalent costs for customers in Korea, with the 13.3-inch model fetching $800 and the 14-inch variant bringing the base price up to $949.

The notebooks feature relatively compact dimensions, measuring just 0.6- and 0.8-inches thick, respectively. Both are produced with an aluminum shell outfitted with an optical drive, 500GB hard drive, Ethernet port, HDMI output, and 1.6GHz Core i5 processors.

The Korean editions provided additional choices for SSD storage, while the larger notebook could be purchased with Radeon HD 7550M discrete graphics, however it remains unclear if the premium options will be available in the US.

Despite the emergence of pre-order options from online retailers, the notebooks have yet to be paired with an exact launch date. [via The Verge]
