INQ Mobile cancels Cloud Q to focus on others

Young phone maker INQ Mobile won't be launching its planned Cloud Q smartphone, ElectricPig learned. The phone, equipped with a hardware QWERTY keyboard, was cancelled so that the company can instead focus on other future products. The first of these is due to arrive in the second half of the year, a company spokesperson indicated.

This, and other new products, are likely to be based on Android 4.0 rather than the now obsolete 2.2 of the company's existing Cloud Touch. INQ heavily customizes the OS with social networking overlays such as Facebook, however.

With the upcoming products, the company is likely to apply lessons it has learned from selling out its Cloud Touch phone in the UK and that's on sale in Canada, Australia, and Italy. The company also released its Facebook apps and widgets for free on the Android Market for a period of eight weeks.
