Lets phones, tablets, PCs remotely monitor home
Motorola has unveiled the 4Home Connected Gateway. With it, a homeowner can remotely access and control many devices, ranging from lighting and appliances to the door locks. They can also monitor camera feeds and control their security systems.
The 4Home Connected Gateway is built upon technology that Motorola gained access to when it acquired start-up 4Home in December, 2010. The Gateway's software runs on a 1.2 GHz processor and interprets the multiple standards and protocols that operate the disparate devices on a home network. This enables consumers to have visibility into their homes remotely, from a smartphone, tablet or PC.
Through the gateway, the user can control the house's energy management system, program devices and diagnose and fix problems with the home's computer network. The user can also enable the gateway to provide service providers access to devices within the home such as set-top boxes, modems and routers to perform upgrades or service provisioning.
Motorola hasn't set pricing or availability for the Convergence Gateway. It will be showcasing it at next week's CES 2012 show along with several other home-centric products including the company's Televation, DCX3600 video gateway, DreamGallery, SocialTV, and SecureMedia.
