Gadmei T863 uses glasses-free 3D with Android

An unusual first came in tablets late this week after Hong Kong exporter Brando began offering the Gadmei T863 3D Tablet. The eight-inch Android 2.3 tablet uses a 1280x768 lenticular display that makes it the first readily available tablet to have glasses-free 3D. Gadmei has given it the support it needs to play content, supporting both common MPO 3D videos as well as H.264 videos encoded with left-right views and a specific file name prefix.

Regardless of the video format, the tablet is also slightly above others in its class for performance, carrying a single-core but modern 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 chip with 1080p-capable Mali-400 graphics and HDMI video out. Most of the cost cutting comes from the 512MB of RAM and its limiting cameras to one VGA (0.3-megapixel) model at the front. Storage comes through 8GB inside and a microSDHC card slot.

At $199, the T863 costs as much as an Amazon Kindle Fire and, while not as fast, has some advantages in the display and camera over its US-designed counterpart, even as it carries a higher resolution than the iPad. Brando is taking orders today. [via CNET]

    Such idiots

3D is just like those slide viewers from the 50s and lenticular photo from the 70s. They are indeed a fad. Why? Prolonged viewing fatigues the eyes. The human eyes have not changed for millions of years.

    am i reading this right

it's a crappier tablet than the iPad 1 and the Kindle Fire, but hey it has 3d so you should buy it is their sales pitch.

Can't wait to see those numbers. Especially the return rate
