Services mimic iCloud
Acer has detailed a range of cloud services that offer features similar to that of Apple's iCloud. The PicStream utility enables users to take photos on their Android smartphone and then view the content on a PC without manually transferring files. Conversely, a movie purchased from the company's all-in-one PCs can be viewed on a tablet or smartphone as long as the computer is in standby mode.
The Clear.fi media application also enables users to remotely access content that is stored on their computer. The service can be used to stream live media, or to download content for offline use.
AcerCloud Docs provides similar cloud-based functionality for productivity documents. Word, Excel or PowerPoint files that are created or modified on a PC are automatically saved to remote servers, while users can also stream presentations.
The AcerCloud services are expected to launch in North America and China in the second quarter of the year before arriving in other regions. Users with existing Acer computers will be able to add the cloud capabilities through a software update.
