Sprint touts Galaxy Nexus, LG Viper with Google Wallet

Launch timing and prices remain unclear

Sprint has finally posted its Galaxy Nexus page and confirmed launch plans for LG's viper handset, following an advertisement campaign that appeared to launch ahead of schedule. The Nexus teaser does not offer many surprises, aside from a detail pointing to support for the Google Wallet NFC payment system.

Though Verizon and Sprint likely utilize the same basic Galaxy Nexus model for LTE and CDMA networks, the former chose not to support Google Wallet. The Sprint ads also suggest the company may be running the CPU at 1.5GHz, compared to the 1.2GHz speed that Verizon references.

Owners of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus can take advantage of Google's NFC payment technology, as unofficial developers created a hack that works around the limitation. The carrier suggests it is in "discussions" with the search giant, however the company is currently working with partners to create an alternative system, Isis, that will directly compete with Google Wallet.

The LG Viper appears to be the second 4G LTE device that Sprint is preparing to offer to customers. The handset is likely intended to be a budget alternative to Samsung's Android flagship, stepping down to a 4.0-inch WVGA touchscreen and Android 2.3, though both 4G phones will support Google Wallet.

Launch timing and pricing information for both phones has yet to be announced. [via Engadget]
