Parrot intros two audio devices at CES

Parrot has used CES as a launchpad for two new products sporting the creative imprint of French designer Philppe Stark. The ZIK Parrot by Starck is a Bluetooth headset that depends on a touch panel for control. The Zikmu SOLO Parrot by Starck is a monobloc wireless stereo speaker with a docking station for an iPhone or iPod.

The ZIK Bluetooth Headset is worn over the ear, with one of the pieces including the touchpad. The earphones sport a motion detection sensor to control the user's phone Bluetooth functions.

The headset incorporates four microphones, two inside the earphones and two to monitor the ambient external noise levels. The earphones also detect the user's jaw motion to adjust the microphone volume accordingly. They work together to provide noise cancellation. Sensitivity is 10Hz to 20kHz.

The ZIKMU SOLO speaker system integrates five speakers, two 20 watt main speakers, a 20 watt 6.5-inch central speaker, and a 40 watt woofer into a single form-factor powered by a 100 watt amplifier. Frequency response is 30Hz to 20kHz. An iPhone/iPod dock sits at the top of the system. Other devices, such as Android smartphones can access the system using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The design integrates NFC technology to control the sound from those devices that support it, like some newer Nokia Symbian phones. The SOLO further carries an Ethernet jack and audio through digital optical SPDIF or 3.5mm analog audio input

This is not the first collaboration between Starck and Parrot. The designer and the provider of wireless devices for mobile phones previously released a paired ZIKMU wireless iPod speaker system.

Parrot has not released pricing for either the new ZIKMU or ZIK. Availability for both will be at an unspecified date later this year.
