11x4 foot video wall features augmented reality
HP has unwrapped a super-sized interactive display wall. The VantagePoint combines six high-resolution displays to create a seamless 11-foot by 4-foot (132-inch diagonal) screen. HP sees multiple applications for the wall including executive briefing centers, showrooms, retail, financial services, automotive, airline, home goods, and government.
HP sees the VantagePoint as a new way for businesses to engage customers through specialized applications or to improve back-office operations through touch-interactive decision support collaboration.
At the core of the 40.5 square-foot VantagePoint is an array of six HP LD4730G 47-inch Ultra-Micro Bezel displays. Each is protected by Gorilla Glass. Individual resolution on each is 720p, but they combine to make an aggregate resolution of 4098x1536. Brightness is 700 cd/m² (500 cd/m² in energy saving mode). An infrared-based touch overlay provides precision touch interaction with 32 touch points. The video and image processing are managed by an HP Z800 Workstation. The Z800, in turn, is driven by dual processors and an ATI FirePro graphics card. Audio and color contrast is handled by a Pavilion Slimline PC dedicated just to those purposes.
The VantagePoint is based on the Windows 7 app framework. HP is encouraging developers to build enterprise apps for it.
HP has partnered with Total Immersion to integrate that company's D'Fusion augmented reality software. The app merges digital data with live video or the user's environment in real time, just at a much higher resolution than on the mobile devices usually used for this purpose.
HP has not publicly disclosed pricing or availability, but has encouraged interested buyers to speak with an HP staffer for details.
