Kno preps Flashcards and analytics for iPad books

Kno has sent early word of two major updates for its iPad textbook app (App Store, not yet updated). Kno Flashcards rely on a unique auto-generation technique that looks for key terms and generates flash cards that are grouped together to quickly create a study guide around a chapter or other segment. The development is based on research into episodic memory patterns, the effect of repetition, and metacognition, all of which should lead to genuine learning and not just memorization, Kno claims.

The adaptation should lead to more than 40 million flashcards stemming from just 150,000 textbooks, according to the claims.

Side-by-side with the cards is Kno Me. A form of self-analytics, it should help students track the correlation between how much they study a book or take quizzes and their performance in practice. Students can set goals for reading hours or other criteria and see how their attitude towards one course affects another.

Kno wouldn't say when the update bringing Flashcards and Me would be ready, but it's expected in the near future. The app so far remains only for the iPad and isn't on Android or the iPhone.
