ASUS rolls out GPS, Wi-Fi fix for Transformer Prime

ASUS issues OS build, updates GPS, Wi-Fi drivers
ASUS has rolled out an update for its troubled quad-core Tegra 3 Transformer Prime that is said to address its GPS and Wi-Fi performance issues. Since its hyped launch, users have complained that the metal back of the device hinders its Wi-Fi reception its GPS performance. The latest software build is 9.4.2.11 and includes a version of Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) that also addresses issues some users had when trying to upgrade from Android 3.2 (Honeycomb).
After receiving negative press coverage and taking flak from disgruntled users, ASUS UK offered users either a full refund or and extra six-months warranty to help quell the issue. Although fitted with a GPS radio, ASUS had even taken the unusual step of removing GPS among its specifications for the device from the company’s US website.
At CES 2012, ASUS revealed an updated and upgraded version of the Transformer Prime that, in addition to adding a higher resolution display, also swaps out the metal back for a plastic one. However, this model is not expected to arrive until as late as June. [via Droid Life]
