Devices bring special sound effects to DJs, studio

Korg brought out a full four new products to its lineup in sync with the NAMM show. The Monotron Duo and Monotron Delay are analog ribbon synthesizers. The Mini Kaoss Pad 2 is an effects processor, while the Kaossilator 2 both provides synthesized sounds and manipulates vocals

Both the Monotron Duo and Monotron Delay are pocket-sized analog synthesizers. They offer ribbon keyboards, built in speakers and run off batteries. The keyboard provides chromatic playing across a selectable six-octave range. The Delay adds a second circuit that enables the user to create delay effects that can be adjusted to alter the timing and feedback of the reverberated sound.

The Mini Kaoss Pad 2 creates different sound effects. It comes with 100 preloaded including standard effects such as Flanger, Filter, Delay, and Reverb, as well as some unique sounds such as Looper, Vinyl Break, and Ducking Compressor. Up to three effects can be stored in memory. the battery-powered device also serves as an MP3 player, recording or playing back songs on a microSD card. Effects can be added real-time to a song as it plays.

The Kaossilator 2 carries an OLED screen, a built-in microphone, an internal speaker, and is powered by disposable batteries. As a synthesizer, it sounds out 150 different effects. In addition to synthesizing, the Kaossilator 2 has unlimited vocal or audio loop recording, allowing complex phrases to be built up from simple phrases. These can then be recorded onto the device.

Both the Monotron Duo and Monotron Delay are priced at $70 and are available immediately. The Kaossilator 2 Dynamic Phrase Synthesizer & Loop Recorder and Mini Kaoss Pad 2 Dynamic Effect Processor both carry a price of $220 and will be available in May.
