Sprint updates Evo 4G, Epic 4G, Design 4G to pull Carrier IQ

Update process expected to be complete in 10 days

Sprint has confirmed that it is set to release over-the-air updates for Samsung's Epic 4G handset and HTC's Evo 4G and Evo Design 4G models. The updates primarily focus on removing Carrier IQ's controversial tracking software, though the company suggests it has also "bundled up a few other fixes."

The Epic 4G update is claimed to include security improvements, while fixing a speaker feedback issue. Qik and Asphalt 5 will no longer be preloaded, requiring users to obtain the apps from the Android Market, though existing data for each title will be retained.

The Evo 4G and Evo Design 4G updates are said to resolve security vulnerabilities and improve battery life. The Peep client has also been updated to align with Twitter accounts.

The update roll-out process is expected to be completed within 10 days.
