Sony 'budget' Kumquat phone seen in photo

One of the phones spotted in a Sony 2012 roadmap may have been caught live. The ST25i seen by Xperia Blog, better known by its Kumquat nickname, has the same squared-off Iconic Identity of the Xperia ion, Xperia S, and LT22i Nypon but has a smaller display. Based on icon sizes and earlier rumors, the phone would have a roughly 3.5-inch, 480x854 display.

Without an explanation, most other details of the Kumquat are left to earlier rumors, which would give it a dual-core 1GHz processor and a five-megapixel camera. Sony has already shown off the 2012 edition of its Timescape interface at CES and is using it here as well on what looks to be Android 2.3.

The most likely venue for the Kumquat to arrive is at Mobile World Congress in late February. Sony is expected to hold an event at the Barcelona expo and would repeat the strategy it tried last year, where the high-end phones showed at CES and the MWC introductions were all mid- or entry-level models.
