Acer Iconia Tab A510 and A700 get Euro launch info

A pair of updates following a press event in Hamburg have given likely release dates for Acer's Iconia Tab A700 and its more mainstream A510 equivalent. Both Tablet Community and Tablet Test expect the quad-core Android 4.0 tablets to arrive in April. Production for at least the A510 was expected to start in February or March.

Both designs also got tentative pricing from Acer staff. Although not official, the A510 would likely start at €500 ($647) with tax included. Acer was aiming for no more than €749 ($969) for a 64GB A700. Prices could go down if "competition" dictated it, Tablet Community was told. An A511 variant will carry 3G.

The European costs may be a clue as to American pricing, which tends to be numerically similar and could mean a range of $499 to $749 before tax.

The two Iconia Tabs share 10-inch screens and Tegra 3 processors that give them much better performance. Most of the differences center around resolution: the A510 has the same 1280x800 resolution as the A500 it replaces, while the A700 upgrades to a 1920x1080 display that's much sharper for web browsing, reading, and video. Acer is expected to start with at least 16GB versions of each.
