Cowon rebrands D3 media player as improved Z2 model

updated 11:45 pm EST, Tue January 24, 2012

Company upgrades to Cortex-A8

Cowon has introduced a new Android-based media player, the Z2 Plenue, which appears to be built with the same external design as the company's existing D3 model. The improved model jumps to a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor paired with 521MB of RAM, along with Micro USB and Micro HDMI ports.

The Z2 retains the same 3.7-inch 800x480 AMOLED display configuration as the D3, placed above several hardware buttons. The integrated battery is claimed to last for 22 hours when playing music, or eight to nine hours when watching video.

Other features include a microSDHC slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an FM radio, though the Z2 still runs Android 2.3 rather than a newer build.

The Z2 sells for the equivalent of $230 for the 8GB version in Korea, or $300 for the 32GB variant, however launch details for North America remain unclear. [via AnythingButiPod and iAudiophile]
