Nokia may have runaway success in one country
New reports from Danish carriers have suggested that the Nokia Lumia 800 may be experiencing iPhone-like demand. Talking to Mobilesiden, local telecom leader TDC's Morten Steen Jensen claimed to have seen the same kind of demand as for the iPhone 4S. While it's not clear which phone was next, the Windows Phone sold three times as many as its next-closest counterpart. Telia had the Lumia 800 second only to the iPhone.
Telenor appeared to have modest sales at first, although it was happy enough at first and saw sales take off this week. 3 Denmark appeared to be spinning poor sales, with spokeswoman Mette Christiansen saying it didn't encounter "iPhone hype" but echoed Microsoft's habit of talking about customer satisfaction instead. She did note that many existing Nokia fans were going for the Lumia 800 rather than switching platforms.
The feedback, combined with cautiously optimistic estimates, suggest that Nokia may at least be reinvigorating sales in its core bases. Sales in some parts of Europe may be slow, and Nokia's near-complete absence from North America until this year will have hurt it as well. The company's challenge has been seen by many as a race to reach as many of its outgoing Symbian customers as it can before they switch to Android or the iPhone.
Nokia is expected to post official results soon that give a better insight into its real Windows Phone sales. [via WMPowerUser]
