Sony may sweep Android 4 through tablets, phones

Sony's promised Android 4.0 update for tablets could be more comprehensive if a news tip reflects reality. Both the Tablet S and Tablet P were expected by The Verge to get the OS update in the spring. The two would get some "really cool unique bits" along with the underlying speed and interface changes, a source said, although what those were hadn't been mentioned.

Both tablets so far have customizations from Sony that speed up the OS responsiveness and add quick access to common apps from any home screen.

The promised upgrade to Android 4.0 for all 2011-era Xperia smartphones would come around the same time in this view. Presumably, new-for-2012 phones such as the Xperia ion will also be part of the updates.
