Vimeo begins closed testing of huge redesign

Vimeo will begin to roll out a newly redesigned website that will put more focus on the videos themselves. Performance and an optimized user interface are also priorities, with the latest programming languages used to build it. The more specific changes include a full-size player that's twice as wide as the old one, more privacy options, and additional ways to share and discover content.

There is also better navigation, and the code changeover will result in quicker development and faster updates in the future. A Facebook-like 'Like' feature will be added for better Related Videos recommendations. A pull-down discovery bar on the video page will also provide contextually-relevant videos. This can be used to explore a feed, see recently watched videos and add more to their queue.

Searches can be filtered down by relevancy, length, credits, and copyright license, among others.

Users also have the ability to upload more than one video at the same time. Blocking specific users or hiding video stats will be options.
The changes are currently in a closed testing period, though more will have the ability to sign up and try them out over the next few weeks. [via PCMag]
