App controlled using Windows Phone device

Developers have demonstrated an unofficial feature for Microsoft's Kinect system that mimics holographic effects. The Programming4fun team used the Kinect beta SDK and Windows Phone to create the illusion of a holographic scene, using the Kinect sensors to track a user's position and change the perspective of the scene projected on a flat surface.

Adding stereoscopic effects to the mix, via simple red/cyan 3D, is claimed to further enhance the perception of a holograph. The demo also uses accelerometers in a Windows Phone handset to control the virtual helicopter in the scene.

It remains unclear if the tech demo will be transformed into a commercial release or inspire companies to mimic the system. [via WMPoweruser]
